What is the Time Card Calculator?
The Time Card Calculator is a complete weekly timesheet utility designed for employees, supervisors, and contractors who need to verify total weekly hours and gross wages. It provides a clean Monday-through-Sunday layout with separate columns for start time, break time, and finish time.
As you input each day's schedule, the calculator dynamically computes daily totals, regular hours, overtime hours above 40 hours per week (or custom thresholds), regular pay, overtime pay at 1.5×, and final gross earnings.
You can toggle individual days on and off, reset the entire sheet with one click, or copy a cleanly formatted payroll summary to paste into an email or payroll software.
How to Use This Calculator
- 1Enter your base hourly wage at the top of the time card.
- 2For each working day, specify clock-in, break out/in (or total break minutes), and clock-out.
- 3Check or uncheck days to easily match your work schedule.
- 4Adjust the weekly overtime threshold if your company uses a different baseline (e.g., 37.5 hours).
- 5Review the live summary card showing regular pay, overtime pay, and gross earnings.
- 6Click 'Copy Summary' to save a clean text record of your week.
Weekly Time Card Formulas
Each daily duration is computed after subtracting breaks. Daily hours are summed across the week. Hours up to the threshold are paid at the base rate, while surplus hours receive the overtime multiplier.
Worked Example: 44-Hour Week at $22.50 per Hour
An employee works 9 hours on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and 8 hours on Friday at a $22.50/hr rate.
Given Inputs
Step-by-Step Calculation
- Regular Hours = 40.00 hours.
- Overtime Hours = 44.00 - 40.00 = 4.00 hours.
- Regular Pay = 40.00 × $22.50 = $900.00.
- Overtime Rate = $22.50 × 1.5 = $33.75 / hr.
- Overtime Pay = 4.00 × $33.75 = $135.00.
- Total Gross Pay = $900.00 + $135.00 = $1,035.00.
Important Notes & Assumptions
- Overtime calculation uses weekly thresholds. Some jurisdictions (e.g. California) also mandate daily overtime after 8 hours.
- Calculations represent gross pre-tax earnings before payroll deductions, income tax, or benefits withholding.
- Supports 12-hour AM/PM and 24-hour military time formats.
